Careful what you say.
Everyone gets five words they can't say. If the mod hears you say one, you die. You can check your words in your notebook. This build is for private games with friends.
How it works
- Press M to check your words. You can move and resize the notebook.
- If a word gets you killed, your notebook highlights it. Other players aren't told which word it was.
- Try Practice mode to test your microphone and word detection. You can revive and get new words.
- Muting voice chat doesn't stop word detection.
- Word detection runs on your PC without uploading its audio or transcripts. Voice chat uses Perfect Comms.
- Everyone needs the same mod version. In Perfect Comms, choose BetterCrewLink for voice chat.
Get set up
Everyone in your lobby needs the same version. Here's how to install it.
Install Among Us through Steam
Use the Windows x64 Steam version of Among Us, game build 2026.9.29. The game itself is not included.
Extract the download
Extract the entire ZIP into a folder. Keep NameLocke Setup.exe, Read me.txt, and the Package folder together.
Run the installer
Open NameLocke Setup.exe and choose INSTALL, or UPDATE for an existing installation. It creates a separate modded copy and a desktop shortcut.
Launch NameLocke
Keep Steam signed in and open the NameLocke desktop shortcut. The first launch can take a few minutes; leave the game open while it loads.
Play with your group
Have everyone install this same version. Configure your microphone in Perfect Comms, use the BetterCrewLink backend, and join a private lobby.
Installation notes
The installer keeps the original Steam installation unchanged. The separate copy is stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NameLocke\Game. No separate Python, .NET SDK, or speech-model installation is needed. To uninstall, open the setup program and choose DELETE MOD. This pre-release still needs broader multiplayer testing; speech detection can make mistakes.
The controls
Your notebook and microphone controls, all in one place.
TUse the selected microphone mode: Toggle Mute or Push To Talk. This does not disable forbidden-word detection.
MShow or hide your private word notebook. The key can be rebound.
Notebook +Open the notebook when it is folded during a meeting.
Practice / ReviveStart a local practice round, then revive and generate a new word set.

- Choose your input device and microphone mode in Perfect Comms. Use Test mic to check the input meter.

- Move it and adjust its scale from 55% to 125%.
- Transcript logging
- Optional and off by default. Recognition stays local.
- Voice setup
- Use the included Perfect Comms build with BetterCrewLink. Do not mix in other voice mods or loader dependencies.
